MECHAU (1745-1808), Salaro Bridge bei Rom, 1799, Etching Jakob Wilhelm Mechau (1745 Leipzig - 1808 Dresden): Ponte Salaro near Rome View of the Campagna, 1799, Etching Technique: Etching on Paper Inscription: lower left signed in the printing plate: "J. Mechau fece". At the lower part inscribed in the printing plate: "Ponte Salaro". lower left dated: "Roma 1793". Date: 1799 Description: A historical engraving shows a rural scene with a line of umbrellas in the foreground and a stone bridge, the Ponte Salaro, over a river in the centre. Figures in period dress enliven the scene, while a mountain is cut into the background. Probably a later print for the French-language edition of the "Malerisch radirte Prospekte von Italien".
