Set of four figures. Indus Valley, ca. 3000-2000 BC. Terracotta. In good condition. Provenance: Aweidah Gallery, Israel, 2014; Exhibited: Ifergan Collection Museum, Malaga (2018-2020). Measurements: 14-18 cm. These sculptures are considered to have had a votive function, as a large number of them have been found in sacred sites, so they are thought to have an apotropaic function. The apotropaic function of these pieces was to protect fertility and maternity. It would undoubtedly be a key ritual element for fertility.
