ART DECO BROOCH, CA.1930, IN GOLD AND PLATINUM WITH DIAMONDS AND EMERALD
Art Deco brooch, ca. 1930, in gold with platinum views and openwork design set with diamonds, old cut with an estimated total weight of 7.50 ct. -highlighting two, one of 1.90 ct. and another of 1.80 ct. approximately- framing synthetic emerald in its size. There are two reasons why it is normal to find synthetic gems in important jewelry made between the 20s and 40s of the 20th century. Firstly, because it is an interwar period, so a large amount of raw materials are scarce, in the same way the display of technical knowledge applied to all manufacturing that has taken place since the beginning of the century also influences. In the 1930s, the use of synthetic emeralds in large quantities was due to the American industry established by C. Chatham and his trade with Europe.
