Not only scientific topics, but also political developments in his home town of Boston were dealt with by him. One of his special achievements was his research into electricity. In his first own experiments on electricity, Franklin investigated the nature of electrical charge. In experiments with a glass tube electrostatically charged by friction, he discovered that the sum of the electrical charges present remains constant in any closed system. To explain his new finding more clearly, Franklin coined the terms "plus" and "minus". He also invented the lightning rod and much more. - Volumes 1 and 2 of the edition deal with electricity and meteorology, volume 3 with politics and statesmanship.
