Fontane, Theodor Liederbuch des literarischen Sonntags-Vereins zu Berlin genannt: Tunnel über der Spree. (Berlin, Feister, c. 1860). Cl.-8°. IV, 88 PP. (Somewhat late.) HLwd. First edition, printed as manuscript. - Schobeß 510,459 a. 1085 - Rare, only edition of the collection of 50 songs, divided into the three sections "König und Vaterland", "Dem Vereine" and "Komische und Geselligkeits-Lieder". The legendary Berlin circle of poets and artists "Tunnel über der Spree" existed from 1827 to 1898 and had a significant influence on the social and literary life of the city. Theodor Fontane was one of its most prominent members and remained loyal to the association until his death in 1898. The contributors disguised themselves behind pseudonyms of famous names such as Petrarca (Ludwig Lesser), Cook (Christian Friedrich Scherenberg), Maler Müller (Hugo von Blomberg), Claudius (George Hesekiel), Spinoza (Rudolf Löwenstein), Bürger (Heinrich Smidt), Tasso (Hugo von Bülow), Immermann (Wilhelm von Merckel) and others - Theodor Fontane published two poems here from 1852 and 1856 under the name of the formerly successful trivial author Lafontaine. - Slight waterstaining to upper third, otherwise a good copy.
