Framed in an opulent gold-colored stucco frame. - Partial paint abrasion and surrounding paper tape along the margins. Occasional light surface soiling in places. Varnish somewhat yellowed. No retouching visible under UV. Good overall. After graduating in 1828 - 1830, the Swiss painter traveled to Italy, the country of longing for many painters. There he visited Naples, Rome and Sicily, among other places. The impressions of nature from his travels were always the subject and motif of his landscape works. His early work was characterized by low horizons and a detailed focus on the sky and the constellation of clouds, which we also find in our painting. The brushstroke was liberated and animated, allowing Ulrich's immediate impressions from his trip to Italy to be reproduced. Oil on canvas. Signed.
