Willy Moralt's father, also a painter and pupil of Carl Spitzweg, discovered his son's talent at a young age and encouraged him early on. From 1903, Willy Moralt studied at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts under Professor Karl Raupp and received his first awards in the following years. He undertook his first study trips to England, Holland, Italy and Switzerland, always depicting the impressive and idyllic landscapes. Illness forced him to give up traveling, but he used this situation to devote himself exclusively to Munich and the foothills of the Alps, in particular the Isar Valley and Lenggries. He always made sketches plein air and then painted his paintings in the studio based on these impressions. From around 1914, he increasingly oriented himself stylistically towards the work of his great-uncle Carl Spitzweg. Moralt changed his painting style, color scheme and technique and now produced his own colors, which is why his paintings have a particularly strong and bright coloring. Moralt's motifs always depict a picturesque and contemplative coziness that sees man in harmony with idyllic nature. Oil on wooden panel. Around 1900. Signed and inscribed "Mchn".
