Charles Otzenberger was married to Germaine Detaille, niece of military painter Édouard Detaille. The Count, a wine merchant and representative from Colmar, became a grand master and rentier, and founder of the Order of the Knights of Saint Lazarus and Saint John of Jerusalem.
