Holy Trinity.
Novohispanic colonial school. Mexico, XVIII century.
Holy Trinity.
Oil on canvas. The Holy Trinity is the fundamental dogma of the Catholic faith based on the mystery of one God in three distinct persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, subsisting in one and the same nature. In this work the three persons were represented as the same and differing only by the color of their clothing and attributes. Christ on the left with blue mantle that alludes to the revealed truth, in his chest the lamb and in his hands the stigmata, the Holy Spirit on the right, with the Dove in his chest, and in the center God the Father, with the Sun in his chest and the scepter in his hand, reminding us that he is considered as King of Kings.
