Tibetan bronze lidded butter lamp for a Buddhist monastery altar. MAde of pierced and hand-hammered gilr-copper alloy. The lids have lion dogs or foo dogs as finials.
The light of the flame of the butter lamp represents the "wisdom of the awakened mind"Most Tibetan household and temple altar displays include a butter lamp. The design od the lamps is a multi-tiered lotus blossom with decorative granulation on the edges.
Provenance: Private collection in Pennsylvania.

The pair is in fine condiiton with very minor dents and expected signs of wear.
