VAN LITH Jean-Paul (b. 1940) - Parallelepiped sculpture in green, violet and silver glazed stoneware with metallic effects on a white base. One side features a geometric decoration obtained by stamping, while the other consists of a crumpled sheet of stoneware. Signed with the artist's usual mark on the base, other markings underneath. Acquired directly from the artist in the early '80s. H. 50 cm, W. 40 cm, D. 10 cm (2 chips). Jean-Paul Van Lith lives in Biot; a graduate of the Ecole des Arts appliqués in Paris, he was introduced to ceramics by Gilbert Portanier in Vallauris, then produced his first personal pieces in Jean Derval's kiln. He set up his own studio in 1974, using a variety of media in his production, notably stoneware and glass (since 1982). Works by Jean-Paul Van Lith are held in the collections of the Musée de Sèvres.
