A CARNELIAN INTAGLIO OF MINERVA IN A SILVER MOUNT, 2ND CENTURY AD A carnelian intaglio showing a bust of Minerva or Roma draped and wearing a crested helmet. The engraving is almost exclusively rendered by cutting with a rotating wheel, a technique that comes to the fore in the second century AD and continues thereafter. The silver mount had two pairs of loops for suspension on a necklace or bracelet. 20 by 14 mm. with mount.
