SCIENCE - BARNARD Christiaan (1922 - 2001) - Photographic portrait with autograph signature Photographic portrait (July 1968) with autograph signature of the South African cardiac surgeon who performed the world's first human-to-human heart transplant operation on the 3rd December 1967. As a young doctor experimenting on dogs, Barnard developed a remedy for the infant defect of intestinal atresia.
