LITERATURE - BLUNDEN Edmund Charles (1896 - 1974) - Autograph poem
Autograph poem by the English poet titled "Fable". For most of his career, Blunden was also a reviewer for English publications and an academic in Tokyo and later Hong Kong. He ended his career as Professor of Poetry at the University of Oxford. He was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature six times. Blunden pens four octaves in kissed rhyme, with many additions and corrections: “…Far up a valley by a quarry deep/(Whence the white church you passed had been up-piled, /Where apple-boughs shadowed the half-wild sheep, /There lived a mano who still was largely child;/A hut much like a cave, a well a wood/were his inheritance and what he wanted;/some skill of wild-wines got him clothes and food, /At manor-house and mill; enough was granted…”. 1 p. ½.
