LITERATURE - HOWE Julia Ward (1819 - 1910) - Autograph letter signed
Autograph letter signed, dated “Aug 29th” by the American author and poet, known for writing the "Battle Hymn of the Republic" as new lyrics to an existing song. She was also an advocate for abolitionism and a social activist, particularly for women's suffrage. Addressed to a general: “…I have promised Col. Higginson (…) that you should, or rather would bring him out to dine with as tomorrow (…) this is a liberty, I acknowledge, but I have rumors by ascertained that you are very humane and helping. What of you remains from the Ball of last night?…”. 2 pp. ¼. In-8. Traces of tape restoration.
