HISTORY - RUSSIA Grand Duke Nicholas Mikhailovic of (1859 - 1919) - Autograph letter signed Autograph letter signed, dated “Ce mercredi” by the the eldest son of Grand Duke Michael Nikolaevich of Russia and a first cousin of Alexander III. On 29 January 1919, Nicholas was moved to Peter and Paul Fortress in Petrograd, and in the early hours of the following day he was shot there by a firing squad, along with his brother, Grand Duke George Mikhailovich, and his cousins Grand Dukes Paul Alexandrovich and Dmitri Constantinovich. Addressed to the painter Édouard Détaille (1848 - 1912): “…J’ai une petite demande à vous faire. Ci-joint je vous envoie un portrait d’un général de division du premier Empire dont le nom m’est inconnu et que Fr. Masson ne peut déterminer…”. 3 pp. In-8. - This item is under temporary import.
