Estimate :
500 - 700 EUR

Metal-plated oille pot and liner standing on four scrolled feet with acanthus leaves, stamped on the shoulder with two plain, foliate cartouches surmounted by a count's crown. The handles and neck are highlighted by a moulding of foliate rushes. The gadrooned doucine lid is topped by a pomegranate-shaped fretel. Late 18th century Stamped on the bottom with Charles Christofle's square hallmark "CC" on either side of a cat's head and the numerals 150 and 94 (Insculpation 1860- 1930 of CC hallmarks with a balance or a cat's head). Charles Christofle hallmarks probably affixed in the 19th century during a restoration of the pot à oille. H. 28 cm Diam. 22 cm Minor dents, particularly on the lining, one cartouche to be reattached. Plated metal, used from the late 18th to the early 19th century, was supplanted by the industrial techniques of silver plating and electrolytic gilding around 1830, favoring the design of less expensive, mass-produced pieces in silvered or gilded metal. Plated metal involves applying a sheet of silver to a non-precious metal such as copper or brass, soldering them together and then rolling them. The plated metal is then shaped, "used as a homogeneous metal".
