TWO ANIMAL PROTOMES Bronze. Luristan and Greek, 9th-8th and 1st half of 7th cent. B.C. a) WILD GOAT. L. 4 cm. - Slender head with rounded mouth, crescent-shaped, incised nostrils, and a notch for the mouth. Large, almond-shaped eyes framed by raised lids. Sickle-shaped horns pointing backwards and ridges at the front. Between ears and horns a bulge representing fur. Groove on the underside. b) EAGLE-GRIFFIN. H. 3.9 cm. - Upper section of wide-open beak with sharp, delicately hatched edges. Large, protruding eyes, the lids accentuated by incisions. A cylindrical terminal with spherical knob rises from the top of the head. Godard - 1931, 72, no. 227, pl. 64. The eyes and horns are very similar. L. 4 cm. - Schlanker Kopf mit halbrundem Maul, dessen Nüstern als sichelförmige Gravur, die Maulöffnung als feine Kerbe gestaltet. Grosse mandelförmige Augen, von hochstehenden Lidrändern umgeben. Sichelförmige, nach hinten emporstehende Hörner mit Grat an der Vorderseite. Zwischen Hörnern und Ohren eine Wulst als Fellangabe. An der Unterseite eine Nut. b) ADLERGREIF. H. 3.9 cm. - Weitgeöffneter Schnabel mit scharfem, fein geriefeltem Rand. Grosse, aufgesetzte Kugelaugen, deren Lider mit Ritzlinien akzenturiert. Auf dem Schädel zylindrischer Aufsatz mit kugelförmigem Abschluss. Provenienz: a) Ehem. Kunstmarkt London, 2006. b) Ehem.
