La Maison de Victor Hugo in Paris preempted an ink drawing at the sale of the collection of two Hugo specialists with a wealth of intimate material.

A book collecting couple amassed a collection dedicated to Victor Hugo, including three drawings by the famous French Romantic author.

Both specialists of Victor Hugo, they collected an array of autographs, books and ink drawings by their favorite author.

After 18 months of renovation, Victor Hugo's house in Paris duly has welcomed its first visitors with a presentation focusing on the "great man" from a more personal angle.

The 48th Aristophil sale focused on great French 19th-century writers and their private letters.

After the impressive restoration of his Guernesey home, Victor Hugo’s apartment at Place des Vosges in Paris will also reopen its doors, after 18 months of work, on November 5th. Both homes are owned by the city of Paris, and directed together by Gérard Audinet.

The House of Victor Hugo acquired for €12,571 Clouds and Sun and Coin Print, one of the 3 drawings by the writer from the Gaudon collection - sold today at Drouot by Nouvelle Étude. The Head of a Gargoyle found a buyer at the same price while Imprint of a Fern went for €5,943.

The opening of the Drouot season is marked by "Oeuvres Choisies", on view from September 21 – 23 in Room 9, a particularly sumptuous selection of aristocratic finery as well as some choice memorabilia from French celebrities past and present.
