MIGUEL PALENCIA (Madrid, 1987). "Cut out. Charcoal applied with the technique of transfer on paper. Measurements: 102 x 71 cm. A direct descendant of the renowned painter Benjamin Palencia, Miguel Palencia Olavarrieta has lived and worked in Spain, United Kingdom, Italy, Switzerland, Japan, Cambodia and Germany. As an architect he has collaborated in experimental studios such as SANAA in Tokyo and Herzog & de Meuron in Basel. As an artist, his work gathers and synthesizes all his experiences, travels, influences and readings. Other exhibitions include, Obra Plástica de los Arquitectos, Coam Madrid, December 2019 (group exhibition), una Selva Oscura, Navel Art, Madrid, June 2020 (solo exhibition), Entremés, ASPA Contemporary, Madrid, November 2020 (group exhibition) Contorno Perdido / Erosión, ASPA Contemporary, Madrid, February 2021 (with Vicente García Lázaro) and Salón de Arte Moderno 2021, Madrid, April 2021, Galería Carlos Teixido. In his most recent work he explores the possibilities of different techniques of manual transfer of the digitized image, using carbon or vegetable paper. The drawing is understood as a patient process of reconstruction - a slow reproduction grain by grain - in which the subject is approached in a deliberately distant and indifferent way, but not in a mechanical way. This work is the result of a continuous reflection on the properties and reality of images and uses as raw material from representations of the History of Art to photographs from the world of advertising and fashion.
