RAMÓN CAPMANY MONTANER (Canet de Mar, 1899 - Barcelona, 1992). "Plaça de Sant Agustí Vell, Barcelona". Oil on canvas. Signed in the upper left corner. Label of Barrachina & Ramoneda. Measurements: 88 x 44 cm; 109 x 64 cm (frame). Painter, engraver and bibliophile, he was a disciple of Francesc Labarta in the School of the Fish Market of Barcelona. As a painter he was mainly dedicated to landscapes (especially of old Barcelona and Montseny), with a naturalistic style, faithful to nature, detailed and with fine strokes. He had important individual and collective exhibitions in Barcelona, Paris, Madrid, Munich and London, among other European cities. Among his awards, the Travelling Exhibition in New York (1926), an exhibition that brought him international fame, and the gold medal in the competition "Barcelona seen by its artists" (1931) stand out. He exhibited regularly at the Sala Parés, and was a member of the group Los Evolucionistas until 1923. He also collaborated in many of the bibliophile editions of the publishing house Montaner y Simón, a prominent company to which the artist was linked by family ties, always using etching, generally in color. He is represented in the Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona.
