IMPORTANTE STATUE DE BACCHUS JEUNE AVEC PANTHÈRE Art hellénistique, IIe s. av. J.-C. Le poids est placé sur la jambe gauche, tandis-que la droite repose élégamment sur la panthère. D’après les modèles attestés dans l’ancienne production classique, le bras droit manquant devait être relevé, de même que l’inclinaison du dos et la pose générale de la figure, ainsi que l’attache haute interrompue par la cassure. Le dieu dans cette posture devait soulever une grappe de raisin ou une coupe à vin. Le bras gauche retient le manteau, près d’un support. Le drapé tombe élégamment de façon sineuse, (avec un goût typiquement hellénistique) et réant ainsi un effet clair-obscur magistral d’une grande beauté. Ce manteau couvre partiellement la figure, laissant la partie supérieure découverte. Le torse se caractérise par un modelé doux et raffiné de l’anatomie, faisant allusion à la jeunesse du dieu. Une iconographie de Bacchus et la panthère rare Un détail d’un intérêt particulier peut être identifié dans la panthère, généralement représentée à côté de la divinité. Dans ce cas, la panthère est plutôt allongée, uniquement avec la tête levée et face à la figure, devenant un support inhabituel où repose le pied de Dionysos. Cette composition peut être considérée comme particulièrement rare, et n’est apparemment attestée que dans un exemple de marbre rapporté par Reinach et se rapportant au Kircherian Museum (B (ull). Mus. Kircher, 95, Helb.). Ce spécimen, d’après le dessin, n’est comparable que par le détail de la panthère piétinée, tandis que le reste de la sculpture semble être une élaboration de plusieurs typologies différentes du jeune Dionysos debout, tantôt nu, tantôt partiellement drapé, ici fusionné en une oeuvre de grande valeur artistique. An hellenistic marble statue of Young Bacchus and panther. The young Dionysus is represented standing, in contrapposto. The weight is placed on the left leg, while the right rests elegantly on the panther. According to models attested in the old classical production, the missing right arm had to be raised, as well as the tilt of the back and the general pose of the figure, as well as the high tie interrupted by the break. The god in this posture had to lift a bunch of grapes or a wine cup. The left arm is holding the coat, near a stand. The drape falls elegantly in a sinuous way, (with a typically Hellenistic taste) and thus re-creating a masterful chiaroscuro effect of great beauty. This mantle partially covers the figure, leaving the upper part uncovered. The torso is characterized by a soft and refined modeling of the anatomy, alluding to the youth of the god. An iconography of Bacchus and the rare panther A detail of particular interest can be identified in the panther, usually depicted alongside the deity. In this case, the panther is rather elongated, only with the head raised and facing the figure, becoming an unusual support where the foot of Dionysus rests. This composition can be considered particularly rare, and is apparently only attested in an example of marble reported by Reinach and relating to the Kircherian Museum (B (ull). Mus. Kircher, 95, Helb.). This specimen, according to the drawing, can only be compared in detail with the trampled panther, while the rest of the sculpture seems to be an elaboration of several different typologies of the young Dionysus standing, sometimes naked, sometimes partially draped, here merged into a work of great artistic value.
