1959 ROLLS ROYCE SILVER CLOUD II CABRIOLET Série : LSPA116 Carte grise française - Conversion Cabriolet réalisée par les ateliers ODS en 2022 - Achetée neuve par la Famille Bouglione - Ex Yves Saint Laurent - Restauration exceptionnelle D’une grande élégance, ses lignes fluides font de la Silver Cloud la plus belle de toutes les Rolls-Royce à carrosserie usine. Malgré des proportions imposantes, aucune lourdeur. Que de la majesté et de la distinction. La Silver Cloud succède à la Silver Dawn en 1955. Elle est toujours construite sur un châssis séparé, une technique archaïque qui permet toutefois aux clients qui le souhaitent de faire réaliser la carrosserie par une grande maison, à l’image de James Young, Hooper ou Mulliner. Mais dans leur grande majorité, les Silver Cloud seront dotées d’une carrosserie usine. Dès le début, HJ Mulliner proposera une carrosserie drophead coupe, inspiration de notre exemplaire. En 1959, apparait sa première évolution, connue sous le nom de Silver Cloud II en recevant un tout nouveau groupe. Ainsi naît la Silver Cloud II, qui consacre le passage de Rolls-Royce au V8 de 6.3L équipé de deux carburateurs SU HD8, donnant une puissance « suffisante » mais toujours onctueuse. Notre exemplaire, fut livré le 05/11/1959 par la Franco-Britannique à la famille Bouglione, celle-ci la conserve quelques années avant de la céder à Yves Saint Laurent, il la conservera jusqu’au début des années 80, elle changera de mains deux fois avant que notre collectionneur l’acquière en 2009. La voiture n‘avait alors pas circulé depuis de nombreuses années et la carrosserie était à reprendre. Courant 2018, celui-ci se rapproche de la carrosserie ODS pour réaliser un projet de grande ampleur : la création sur la base de sa berline d’un Drophead Coupe. 5 ans de travail et de nombreuses factures seront nécessaires pour finaliser la conversion. En plus de la création d’une nouvelle carrosserie, toute la voiture a été intégralement restaurée. Nos essais routiers ont révélé une automobile plaisante et très agréable à rouler.
