China, blue and white porcelain inscribed vase, Kangxi period (1662-1722), the baluster sides painted with birds among branches of prunus, inscribed with a seal and two lines of calligraphy which may be translated as: 'The old prunus tree is blossoming, but its branches are thin and gnarled/ The older its gets, the more it gains in character', the base with apocryphal Chenghua mark (glaze crack and hairline running vertically over one line of calligraphy) h. 20,7 cm Provenance: Hooykaas Fine Arts b.v., The Hague [1]
