HOPFER, Lambert. DÜRER, Albrecht (after) Christ before Pilate. Early 16th c Etching, 13,5 x 8,6 cm, laid paper, signed "LH", numb. 196 (trimmed inside platemark, traces of former mount on verso). Good impression and condition. Rare. Fine etching after Albrecht Dürer's (1471-1528) engraving from the Passion series (Hollstein German VII.10.7). Lambert Hopfer (fl. c. 1525-1550) was the son of Daniel Hopfer (1471-1536), the first artist to use the etching technique for printmaking. Dark impression with the number of David Funck (17th c.).
