MICHELEZ, Charles-Louis; PETIT, Pierre Exposition universelle 1867 Paris. 2nd half 19th c 7 albumen prints, 17,8 x 23,5 cm, pasted on cardboard, another 8 albumen prints, 23 x 29,3 cm pasted on verso of cardboards (2 on 1 cardboard mount), printed legend, photographer's name, title and stamp on each photo, 2 with blindst. for recto sides, legends in photos for verso sides (mounts sl. soiled, edges with sm. def.). By the French photographers Pierre Petit (1832-1909) and Charles-Louis Michelez (1817-1894) documenting the buildings, grounds and exhibits of the 1867 Paris Expo. Napoleon III awarded Petit the exclusive rights to photograph the 1867 Paris Expo, but other French photographers vehemently objected to this award, and ultimately they were also given the right to take photographs. In this lot images of cafes and restaurants located along the outer edge of the main pavilion, side view of the pavilion of the Ottoman Empire, sculpture gallery of Italy, another outdoor sculpture gallery, inside a greenhouse, etc. On verso of each cardboard of a Paris Expo photo: 5 albumen prints of the interior of the Palace of Fontainebleau by J.D., 2 of the facade of the Certosa di Pavia monastery by Ed. Alinari (Florentine publishing house and photography firm founded in 1852) and 1 other unidentified bucolic scene.
