A ROMAN INTAGLIO OF SERAPIS IN CARNELIAN, 1ST CENTURY AD A handsome carnelian intaglio showing a bust of Serapis facing left. Serapis is very well rendered with deep, bold engraving showing details on the modius on his head. Both the cults of Serapis and Isis were very popular throughout the Roman Empire, their temples being found in the furthermost reaches of the realm. Dark brown carnelian with traces of an iron mount at the back. 14 by 11 mm.
