THREE IDOLS AND A ZEBU BULL H. max. 6.5 cm. L. max. 3.2 cm. Near East. a) HEAD OF AN IDOL. Clay. - Notched pointed hat, beak-like nose, eyes affixed. Cut off at the neck. 2nd mill. B.C. b) ZEBU BULL AMULET. Marble. - Flat, stylized body with hump doubling as eyelet for suspension. Undamaged. 3200-2900 B.C. c) SPECTACLE IDOL. Beige sandstone. - Basically oval, solid body; two large drilled eye holes as head. Upper part assembled from a few fragments; some wear on the flat base. Ca. 3000 B.C. d) EYE IDOL. Limestone. - Angular and flat with short neck and V-shaped neckline; drilled eyes with grooved outlines as head. Reverse smooth. Undamaged. 3500-3300 B.C. Provenance: Coll. P.A.E. Intakt. 3200-2900 v.C.; c) BRILLENIDOL. Beiger Sandstein. - Massiver Körper ovaler Grundform; als Kopf grosse, gebohrte Augen. Oberteil aus wenigen Fragmenten zusammengesetzt; Bestossungen an der flacher Standfläche. Um 3000 v.C.; d) AUGENIDOL. Kalkstein. - Eckig, flach; kurzer Hals; V-Ausschnitt; als Kopf gebohrte Augen mit Rillenkonturen. Rückseite glatt. I
