AN AMULET IN THE FORM OF A THOTH- BABOON H. 6 cm. Green Faience. Egypt, Late Period, 26th-30th Dynasty, 664-343 B.C. Thoth-baboon squatting on a shield-shaped base with his front paws resting on his knees; eyelet on the back. Male genitals clearly visible between the splayed hind legs. Snout and base worn. Although not provided with any specific attributes, the statuette is clearly the sacred animal of the moon god Thoth. Provenance: Private Coll. G.H., Germany, 1964-2000. - Acquired before 1970. Ägyptisch, Spätzeit, 26.-30. Dynastie, 664-343 v.C. Auf schildförmiger Basis hockend; mit Tragöse auf dem Rücken; Vorderpfoten auf die Knie gelegt. Zwischen gespreizten Hinterbeinen männliche Geschlechtsteile. Schnauze und Basis bestossen. Obwohl diese Statuette nicht mit spezifischen Attributen versehen ist, handelt es sich hier um das heilige Tier des Mondgottes Thot. Provenienz: Privatslg.
