A FERTILITY IDOL H. 14 cm. Clay. Late Aegean Bronze Age, 1475-1225 B.C. Standing, bird-faced figure wearing a headdress with two large drill holes on either side. The hands pressed against the breast and wide hips emphasize the idol's function. Left arm reattached, otherwise intact. Provenance: Formerly an American priv. coll., acquired in 1987. Plinth with label ?Lot No. 0025 057 Classic FA?. The drill holes in the headdress were for ornamental rings. - For the style, cf. two Cypriot fertility idols in Mollard-Besques - 1963, pl. 3,2 with ornamental rings; Johnson - 1980, 21 no. 103 pl. 20. FRUCHTBARKEITSIDOL H. 14 cm. Ton. Späte ägäische Bronzezeit, 1475-1225 v.C. Stehende, vogelgesichtige Figur mit beidseits doppelt gebohrtem Kopfputz. Die zur Brust geführten Hände, wie auch das breite Becken betonen die Funktion des Idols. Linker Arm wieder angesetzt, sonst intakt. Provenienz: Ehem. amerikanische Privatslg., erworben in 1987.
