A GRIFFIN PROTOME H. 14.4 cm. Clay. Roman, 2nd cent. B.C.-1st cent. A.D. Expressive head with heavy eyebrows, a powerful, curved beak with pronounced nostrils and grand-looking crest. Folds of skin on the breast. Complete, reassembled from a few large fragments. Crest slightly worn. Provenance: Formerly Coll. B.A. W., Basle, Switzerland, acquired ca. 2000. Expressiver Kopf mit wuchtigen Brauen, kräftigem, gebogenem Schnabel, markanten Nüstern und stolz aufgerichtetem Kamm. Felllappen auf der Brust. Aus grossen Fragmenten vollständig zusammengesetzt.
