Period reign of Emir Tatar 1421-1422
Brass chiselled with traces of silver, decorated with a long votive titulature in "thuluth" for an emir with laqab of Malek al-Zaher. Formerly redone top. Egypt or Syria, 1st quarter 15th century.
Several sultans from the 15th century have the laqab "Al-Zâher". The laqab became the symbol of party allegiance. The precedent of using the laqab of the faction's founder was set with the rise of Tatar to power in 824/1421. He took the laqab "al-Zahir Barquq"
Tatar died three months into his reign by Barsbay, another Circassian emir of Barquq, in 1422.

Condition: Condition: very fine with superb dark patina. Some small dents on top of the base. Typical signs of the forging method on the inside of the base consisting with age. The silver inlay is partially present. The structure of inlay is clear.
