The sculptures represent Puxian Pusa on his mount, the white elephant, and Wenshu Pusa on a lion. Both Pusa (Sk. Bodhisattva) sit in banjiazuo (Sk. Lalitasana), the posture of relaxation. In China the figures of Puxian and Wenshu are shown in a triad with Sakyamuni. Puxian (Sk. Samantabhadra) is the Bodhisattva of Benevolence or universal Kindness. The hands make the gesture of argumentation, the anweiyin (Sk. Vitarkamudra). Wenshu (Sk.Manjushri) is the Bodhisattva of great spiritual Wisdom. In his right hand he holds a scroll with the text of the prajnaparamita sutra. His left hand makes the gesture of argumentation, the anweiyin (Sk. Vitarkamudra).
